Unknown gunmen, Wednesday, invaded Isu and Onicha Igboeze communities, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing two lawyers, two policemen and six others.
The policemen were killed in Isu community while the two lawyers were killed in Onicha Igboeze community.
The hoodlums on invading the communities started shooting sporadically which led to the death of about 10 persons.
It was gathered that the two lawyers were passing by in a vehicle, but unfortunately ran into the gunmen who were traveling in a Lexus SUV.
Community sources said that the gunmen after killing the lawyers burnt the Lexus SUV they came in, and left the area using the lawyers’ vehicle.
There have been series of killings in the local government area for the past three months.
About seven travellers were burnt alive inside a vehicle they were traveling in along the Onicha Igboeze road, two months ago.
Last month, princess of Onicha Igboeze community, Elizabeth Agwu, was hit by a stray bullet when policemen invaded the community to arrest a suspected member of IPOB.
The woman died as a result of the bullet which struck her on the abdomen. The suspect who the policemen came to arrest was also shot dead by the police.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth, confirmed, the Wednesday killings.
She said details of the incident were still sketchy, noting that the State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, has dispatched a team to the area.
