…*Say Ndigbo should boycott Enugu Igbo Day
A coalition of Igbo groups, identified as Southeast Women Professionals led by Professor Helen Ogbonnaya, World Igbo Youth Congress led by Dr Ebitu Odionyemfe and Igbo Student Union led by Comrade Chudi Ukoha, have called on the Federal government to review the 1996 Onumajuru Panel of Inquiry on the nefarious activities of Otokoto Mafia Imo group and the indictment of those who promoted kidnapping, ritual practices and violence across Imo state in 1996.
The groups believe that the Onumajuru panel will help the Federal Government unravel the cause of ongoing security challenges in Imo State. They said the Otokoto mafia group of 1996 has recently taken over Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Igbo leadership, and they urged Igbos to ensure that the Otokoto Group is flushed out starting from the boycott of Enugu 2023 Igbo day.
The groups believe that those whose sordid past and present pollute Imo and Southeast Igbo nation should openly boycott the Enugu Igbo Day which they alleged was been organized by an alleged Otokoto group of 1996. Adding that the spirit of the victims are crying out for justice. They believe that Ndigbo should ensure that they should never escape justice. “And except Federal Government probe into ONUMAJURU PANEL ON OTOKOTO KILLINGS there will be no solutions in sight on the insecurity in Imo state.
“Finally, the COALITION are warning the conveners of SOUTHEAST SECURITY AND ECONOMIC SUMMIT holding on 28th September 2023 to postpone it till after the Governorship election in Imo state, stating that Ndigbo perceived the event as an ill-timed and open endorsement of unpopular candidate.” the group added.
