2023: Wike, Obi best bet for PDP presidential ticket, says Ohanaeze

Chidi-Ibeh led Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has described the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as the best choice for the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential ticket come 2023.

The group in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that the duo have shown courage and Igbo ingenuity in governance with a proven track record of accomplishments in Rivers and Anambra States respectively.

Ohanaeze stated it has monitored the progress made by Obi and Wike and approved that their approaches to issues of the day and the dilemma facing Nigeria have sparked rays of hope for a better Nigeria.

The statement reads, “Governor Wike has labored very hard to strengthen PDP as an opposition political party and we are in support of Governors Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi’s efforts to assist the Ohanaeze’s mandate of recovering Ndigbo in the South /South zone, which is highly commendable.

“It has been a herculean task to unite our kith and kin from South/South, as part of our obligation based on the Constitution of Ohanaeze, remains that all Igbo speaking States of Ohanaeze including Ikwerre in Rivers and Anioma in Delta are part of the 2023 Igbo Presidency project. Governor Wike is a match to Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, he has what it takes to defeat the former Vice President.

“Mr. Peter Obi’s luminance on issues of the economy and simplicity has earned him a lofty admiration amongst Nigerians. The former Governor has what it takes to revive the economy and introduce modesty in governance, he is the toast to PDP delegates, we are pleased as he accepted the challenge of throwing his hat on the ring and we wish him the best ahead of the PDP primaries.

“Ndigbo are not happy with the way PDP has abused the principles of the zoning formula enshrined in her Constitution, this is unacceptable and it’s an albatross to a successful expedition. The option of an open contest had brought suspicion that the NWC is not sincere with Ndigbo after milking the Igbo votes for 20 years, and attempts by NWC to manipulate the primaries in favor of Atiku or any other Northerner will spell doom for the party”.
