The President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo, Monday, commended Ebonyi State Governor, David Nweze Umahi’s N3bn Endsars empowerment programme, even as he appealed to other governor’s to emulate the governor’s idea so as to check youths restiveness and security situations in the country.
Isiguzo stated this at the NUJ National Secretariat, Abuja, during an unscheduled visit by the Commissioner of Information and state Orientation, Ebonyi State, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji.
He also commended Gov. Umahi for the avalanche of projects he executed in the state, adding that no one would have believed that Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi is part of Nigeria compared to what it used to be.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, noted that his visit was to thank the NUJ President and Journalists in Ebonyi State for their good work and support to the administration of His Excellency, Gov. Umahi.
Orji stated that the role of the Media in Ebonyi and indeed Nigeria at large cannot be over emphasized, adding that the world may not have known the unprecedented transformations going on in the State since 6years now without the media.
He enumerated some of the achievements of Gov. Umahi to include, “the biggest Shopping mall in Africa, The Light Tunnel named after President Buhari, Ebonyi Water Fountain arena which can accommodate more than 2,000 persons.
” Ebonyi International Market, the biggest in South East Nigeria, Concrete Express Roads, first of its kind, 25 Kilometre roads in each of the 13 Local govt areas, the biggest Rice Milling Plant in sub-sahara Africa, and the mother of them all, the beautiful Flyovers and the ongoing International Airport which is a signature project of Gov. Dave Umahi, which was graciously approved by President Buhari”.
“The list is endless, l thank the leadership of the NUJ for their timely intervention during a media issue in the State. The NUJ President has done very well so far within his period in office” he stated.
Barr Orji urged newsmen, the people of Ebonyi State and Nigeria in general to key into the transformation strategies of Ebonyi Government, adding that Gov. Umahi has all it takes to turn around the polity and fortunes of the Country.
