Ebonyi State governor, Engr. David Umahi, has given the Ministry of Water Resources, Ebonyi State, 48hrs to restore water supply to Abakaliki the state capital and its environs.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Uchenna Orji, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly State Executive Council Meeting on Friday in Abakaliki.
The commissioner who revealed that regular water supply among other issues dominated discussions at the council meeting, noted that the governor was concerned about the epileptic water supply and promised to handle the issue.
Orji said the state government was working hard to ensure improvement on the water supply in Abakaliki metropolis as well as other parts of the state in no distant time.
He stated: “The executives discussed the need for effective water supply and gave a directive that within 48 hours, the ministry must tackle all problems hindering water supply.
“You do know that we have gigantic water schemes at Oferekpe, Ikwo Local Government Area, Ukawu, Onicha Local Government Area. The Ezilo Regional Water Scheme is being renovated and we have one in Ivo ongoing and in Uburu.
“Water is very critical and it is one of those essential social amenities that the government must provide for the people of Ebonyi. All efforts are being made to ensure that water is provided especially to those in the capital city.
The commissioner also disclosed the appointed of a 40-year-old civil servant, Williamson Mfom Christian, as the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
He noted that the Governor made redeployment of other Permanent secretaries.
