Why APC lost Anambra election, Ohaneze reveals

Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has revealed the reason the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost in the just concluded Anambra governorship election despite being in control at the national level.

In a release by the Secretary-General of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and made available to our correspondent, the group accused the governor of Imo state of being responsible for the defeat of APC in Anambra state.

Ohaneze said that if Governor Uzodinma hadn’t been the coordinator of the APC national council for Andy Ubah’s campaign, the party would have won.

The Igbo group also noted that the incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, contributed to the party losing the Anambra governorship election.

The statement reads: “The disgraceful defeat of APC in the Anambra elections was based on the wrongful choice of Governor Uzodinma as coordinator of the APC National Council for Andy Uba’s campaign, and the incarceration of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Federal Government. The APC National leadership should know that Governor Uzodinma had led APC to disgraceful defeats twice in two governorship elections, earlier in EDO state and now in Anambra”.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo compliments the uncommon courage and tolerance of Ndi- Anambra to sustain the visions of the legendary icon, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu by ensuring that the only way to immortalize him was to ensure that APGA remains the Igbo identity.

”Governor Willie Obiano prompt payment of Anambra workers salaries and welfare benefits are great model for other states to embrace”.

Ohanaeze, urged all governorship candidates of different political parties in the just concluded Anambra governorship elections, to accept the victory of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as declared by the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC).

the group stated that the governorship election result was a reflection of the peoples’ verdict, adding that on no account should it be challenged in the tribunal and courts.

Ohaneze commended President Mohammadu Buhari, for authorizing INEC to be truly independent and to carry out her constitutional duties without influencing or manipulating the electoral processes in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that came third in the contest.

” There was no evidence of widespread electoral frauds and malpractice. We commended INEC for conducting free, fair and credible elections in Anambra state. We must warn against using the Supreme Court to swap the peoples’ mandate given to Soludo by Anambra people”, the group added.
