Amotekun intercepts truck load of gunmen heading for Igangan community

Operatives of the Oyo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, (Amotekun), on Monday intercepted a truck loaded with gunmen heading for Ibarapa village in Igangan community, Oyo state.

The gunmen, suspected to be herders rode in a truck, with Kebbi State registration number TUR30ZY.

Searching the suspects, the operatives discovered about 25 guns and 10 dogs in the truck and they were handed over to the police in Ido for more investigation.

Recall that there was violence at Igangan on Friday when a popular Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, alongside his followers, invaded the Fulani settlement in the town to eject Seriki Fulani, Salihu Abdukadir, and herdsmen accused of perpetrating crimes ranging from kidnappings, killings, rape to invasion of farmlands with their cattle.

During the crisis, the Seriki Fulani of Igangan and his family members were evicted from the town and their property torched.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to state Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, Igangan community leaders on Sunday stated that besides the payment of N50m as ransoms, 15 women were raped by the herders in the town.
